Mountaineers head basketball coach Bob Huggins arrested for DUI in Pittsburgh; resigns thereafter

West Virginia’s Bob Huggins has resigned a day after his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving in Pittsburgh,

The university announced the resignation Saturday night.

Huggins was charged with driving under the influence on Friday night after his SUV had stopped in the middle of traffic in Pittsburgh with a flat tire and the driver’s-side door open at around 8:30 p.m. According records, a breath test determined Huggins’ blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

Huggins was charged with DUI, released from custody and will appear at a later date for a preliminary hearing.

Huggins leaves as the third-winningest coach all-time in Division I with 935 career victories, with only Mike Krzyzewski of Duke (1,202) and Jim Boeheim of Syracuse (1,015), ahead of him. Both of whom retired in consecutive season. Coach K in 2022 and Boeheim in 2023. Huggins is 69 years old.

A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Huggins put in 16-year stints each with the UC Bearcats and Mountaineers. But sadly, both ended with arrests for drinking and driving.
