Brutus Buckeye, the popular mascot of the Ohio State University, is among eight finalists in the Capital One National Mascot of the Year contest.
The top three finishers in regular-season online voting were Old Dominion’s Big Blue, Texas-El Paso’s Pay Dirt Pete and Montana’s Monte.
Rounding out the final eight are Cincinnati’s Bearcat, Puddles the Duck from Oregon, Idaho’s Joe Vandal and Big Red of Kentucky.
The winning mascot’s school will be awarded a $15,000 scholarship.
The winner will be announced January 1 at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
