Wright State Raiders return home to face Phoenix of Green Bay

DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team returns home for a Thursday night matchup against visiting Green Bay, with the Raiders and Phoenix both coming into the contest having won three of their last four games since the turn of the calendar into January. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and fans can follow the action several ways – via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in to the new home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Justin Kinner will have all the action on the both the ESPN and radio feeds.

Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. The iHeartRadio app, the TuneIn Radio app and the Audacy app are all FREE and each carry 101.5 HANK FM. Just search “101.5 HANK FM” on any of the three apps for Raider Basketball.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State went back-and-forth all night but came up just short Friday night in front of a national television audience, falling 81-71 at Youngstown State to close the three-game road trip. Wright State saw four players finish in double figures scoring, led by Alex Huibregtse’s game-high 20 points as he added five rebounds and four assists. Trey Calvin finished with 16 points of his own, filling his stat line with four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals, while AJ Braun tallied 10 of his 12 points in the first half. Tanner Holden finished with the night’s only double-double, chipping in 11 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Logan Woods added a career-high eight points on 2-of-3 shooting off the bench, adding a pair of rebounds.

UPDATING THE RECORD BOOK
Trey Calvin and Tanner Holden continue to solidify themselves in the Raider record book, with each making moves against Youngstown State on Jan. 12. Calvin moved into second place all-time in scoring with 1,860 points to pass former standout DaShaun Wood (2003–07) while Holden inched closer to Wood and is now fourth with  1,795 points after passing Loudon Love (2017-21)in the YSU contest. Holden also became the No. 5 all-time rebounder with 750 boards, breaking a temporary tie with Bill Fogt (1970-74).

FACING THE PHOENIX
Even with the loss in the first meeting this season on Dec. 30 in Wisconsin, Wright State has won 14 of the last 17 meetings in the series. The first meeting came back on December 7, 1987, a Green Bay victory in the Raiders’ first year as a Division I program. A tight series throughout history, Wright State now has a slim, 39-34 overall series lead.

PHOENIX RISING
– Green Bay is currently 11-8 on the season and 6-2 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix are 7-1 at home but just 4-6 on the road while also having a neutral site loss.
– Green Bay has won two of its last three HL road games – at Detroit Mercy and IUPUI – after starting the League road slate with a Nov. 29 loss at Purdue Fort Wayne. The Phoenix also have a road loss at Oakland back on Jan. 6.
– Noah Reynolds has three straight games with 30-plus points coming into Thursday’s contest and was named the HL’s Player of the Week on Monday. Reynolds in the only HL player to have scored 30-plus points three times this season.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State currently leads the nation with its 53.3 percent overall season shooting percentage. The Raiders’ Effective FG Percentage (58.6 percent) is No. 4 and the Scoring Offense (84.9) is No. 14. Individually, Trey Calvin is No. 16 nationally with 125 Field Goals made, while No. 43 nationally with 19.3 points per game scoring average. He is No. 14 with his 91.7 percent Free Throw Percentage (44-of-48). Calvin’s 328 total points are No. 40, while Tanner Holden (314 total points) is No. 59. Holden’s 117 Field Goals made is No. 32 nationally.

PLAYING THE PERCENTAGES
-Wright State is shooting 79.5 percent (246-of-354) in around the rim baskets, ahead of the current Division I average of 62.1 percent. Individually, Tanner Holden is at 75.3 percent (55-of-73), Drey Carter is connecting at a 72.7 percent clip (24-of-33) and AJ Braun is shooting 72.4 percent (63-of-87) around the rim.
-The Raiders are connecting on shots in the paint at 49.1 percent (83-of-169), better than the current D-I average of 40.6 percent. The mid-range shooting game is also ahead of the national average, with Wright State connecting at 45.3 percent (82-of-181), ahead of the Division I average of 35.9 percent.
-Wright State has evenly distributed its shooting – recording 36.5 percent of total shot attempts at the rim, 27.5 percent coming from three-point range, 18.6 percent on mid-range two-point shots and 17.4 percent coming on shots in the paint.
-Wright State has tallied an assist on 87.4 percent of its three-point baskets and is assisting on 38.9 percent of its two-point baskets.
-The Raiders have 90 total assists on three-pointers, accounting for 31.1 percent of their 289 total assists. 52.8 percent of Wright State’s remaining assists have come on baskets at the rim (130 total assists).
