Wright State Raiders Men’s Basketball News: Welcomes in Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky tonight at 7

DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team continues its four-game homestand on Tuesday night as the Raiders welcome Western Kentucky to town for a 7 p.m. tipoff inside the Nutter Center. Fans can follow the action several ways – via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in to the new home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the both the ESPN and radio feeds.

Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. LAST TIME OUT
Five players scored in double figures on Thursday night as the Wright State men’s basketball team opened a four-game homestand with an 81-62 victory over Bethel inside the Nutter Center. Trey Calvin scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, while Alex Huibregtse stuffed his stat line with a 13-point night on 6-of-9 shooting, added eight rebounds, six assists and two steals, with each of the later three numbers tying career-highs for him. Brandon Noel added 12 points and Tanner Holden chipped in 11, with AJ Braun recording his second double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Off the bench, Kaden Brown finished with a career-high eight points in 17 minutes and Drey Carter tallied seven points while connecting on his first collegiate three-pointer.

ON THE HORIZON
Wright State’s 81.3 points per game scoring average is currently second in the Horizon League, while  the 50.8 overall shooting percentage leads the HL and the 36.4 percent three-point shooting number is also second in the League.

SCORING THE ROCK
Trey Calvin enters Tuesday’s action with double digits scored in every game in 2023-24 and 23 of his last 24 games dating back to a win at Green Bay in January 2023. Over the last season-plus, Calvin has recorded 10 or more points in 35 of his last 42 games played.

KNOW THE FOE
– Western Kentucky is 7-3 on the season entering Tuesday, coming off a Saturday night win at Buffalo. WKU has four wins at home, including victories over NCAA Division II Kentucky Wesleyan and Kentucky State, as well as NAIA Campbellsville.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State’s 50.8 overall season shooting percentage is No. 16 in the country, while the Raiders’ Effective FG Percentage (55.9 percent) is No. 37. The Scoring Offense (81.3) is No. 54 and Wright State’s Three Point Percentage (36.4) is No. 72. Individually, Trey Calvin in No. 4 nationally with his 96.4 percent Free Throw Percentage (27-of-28), while AJ Braun is No. 7 with his 68.2 percent overall Field Goal Percentage (45-of-66).

PLAYING THE PERCENTAGES
-Wright State is shooting 69.8percent (113-of-162) in around the rim baskets, ahead of the current Division I average of 62.1 percent. Individually, AJ Braun is shooting 75.0 percent (30-of-40) around the rim, Drey Carter is connecting at a 76.2 percent clip around the rim (16-of-21) and Tanner Holden is at 74.2 percent (23-of-31).
-The Raiders have taken 65.1 percent of their season shots – 304 total shots – from either around the rim (within 4.5 feet) or on above the break three-pointers (non-corner threes taken within 14 feet of the baseline). Wright State begins the week 122-of-163 shooting at the rim and 46-of-141 on above the break threes,  both ahead of the NCAA Division I average, while the Raiders have 162 total shot attempts combined across all other shot locations (in the paint, midrange two-pointers, corner threes).

SHARING THE LOAD
Although still early in the season, Wright State enters the week with nine players averaging double digit minutes per game, from 33.7 minutes/game for Brandon Noel to 11.3 minutes/game for Kaden Brown. If this pace keeps up, it will be the first time since the 2019-2020 season that the Raiders have had nine players average double-digit minutes per contest. That group ranged from Cole Gentry’s 31.3 minutes/game to 14.3 for Grant Basile.
