LAST TIME OUT
Wright State went toe-to-toe with Colorado State over the first 20 minutes on Friday night, but the hosts pulled away in the second half to hand the Raiders a 105-77 defeat in Wright State’s 2023-24 season opener. Wright State was led by Trey Calvin’s game-high 33 points while Tanner Holden added 16 points in his Raider return and AJ Braun and Brandon Noel each chipped in eight points. Calvin tallied 20 of his 33 points in the first half as Wright State came out of the gates hot and hit its first five shots of the half. The Raiders played from in front most of the opening 20 minutes, seeing the lead get as high as 11 at the 10:02 mark after a jumper from Alex Huibregtse. After Colorado State tied the game at 35-all, the sides traded baskets before the hosts took the lead for what turned out to be for good at 40-39 with 1:40 until the break.

READY FOR THE ROCKETS
Wright State and Toledo meet for the 15th time in program history on Tuesday night and the first time since a 79-72 road Raider victory on December 21, 2019. Wright State has won three in a row in the series, including the last time the two teams met inside the Nutter Center – six years ago to the day, on November 14, 2018. Head coach Scott Nagy is 3-1 with the Raiders against Toledo, with the Rockets handing him his first-ever Wright State loss on November 19, 2016 (82-78) just three games into his Raider career.

KNOW THE FOE
– Toledo has opened its 2023-24 season with a pair of home wins, including rallying from a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Louisiana 87-78 on Saturday night. The Rockets opened the schedule with a 94-60 win over Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy last Monday. Detroit Mercy was picked ninth in the 11-team Horizon League preseason poll last month.
– Ra’Heim Moss has tallied double digits in both wins (15 points against Detroit Mercy, 16 points against Louisiana) while four other players are averaging double digits after finishing with double digits in one of the two games so far.

OPENING RESPONSE
Wright State is now 4-4 in season openers under head coach Scott Nagy after the Nov. 10 loss at Colorado State to begin 2023-24. The last two times Wright State lost its season opener, the Raiders immediately responded with winning streaks of four (2022-23) and seven (2020-21). Under Nagy, Wright State has started a season with back-to-back losses just once, dropping its first three games in 2017-18 before bouncing back with wins in the next four contests on the way to a Horizon League title and trip to the NCAA Tournament.

DROPPIN’ 30
Trey Calvin’s 33-point effort in the season opener at Colorado State on Nov. 10 was his fifth career performance with 30 or more points after reaching the mark four times last season.

HEY HOLDEN
Wright State’s season opener at Colorado State was Tanner Holden’s first game in a Raider uniform since the Raiders’ March 18, 2022 NCAA Tournament game against Arizona in San Diego – a span of 632 days. Holden, who spent the 2022-23 season at Ohio State, will play his first home game at the Nutter Center in 652 days – since March 3, 2022 vs. Oakland in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals- on Tuesday when Wright State welcomes Toledo to town.

WELCOME TO THE ACTION
Three Wright State players – true freshman Kaden Brown and redshirt freshmen Drey Carter and Logan Woods – all saw their first collegiate action on Nov. 10 at Colorado State, with Carter logging 16 minutes and four points on a pair of second half baskets. Brown and Woods each tallied their first points from the free throw line.

THE SWEET SPOT
Wright State had 15 games last season shooting 50 percent or higher from the floor, including four games at 60 percent or better in 2022-23. The 15 such games were the most in a season under head coach Scott Nagy (since 2016-17). Under Nagy, the Raiders have shot 50 percent or better 70 times with a 65-5 record in those games. The four games above 60 percent shooting were more than the six previous seasons combined under Nagy (three previous – one each in ’21-22, ’19-20 and ’17-18).
