Crew Academy’s Under-17 team has been having at the 2022 Generation adidas Cup. On Wednesday, Crew Academy defeated Scottish powerhouse Celtic FC 3-2 in a Round of 16 match to advance to the quarterfinals of the U17 Generation adidas Cup.
Crew Academy had finished in first place of Group B, ahead of St. Louis City SC, FC Dallas and Mexico’s Club Tijuana. Celtic finished atop Group H, having defeated all three of its opponents (Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati and the New England Revolution).
On Wednesday, Crew battled back from being down 2-0, eventually emerging 3-2 victors. With the win, the Black & Gold became the first U-17 side to defeat an European team in the playoffs of the tournament. The attached image features the starting XI against Celtic FC, courtesy of Crew Academy.
The Black & Gold are slated to face Inter Miami CF today at 5:00 p.m. ET, with the winner of the contest set to face the winner of the CF Monterrey – Seattle Sounders FC quarterfinal.
Generation adidas Cup is an elite youth tournament featuring MLS and professional club academies from around the globe. This year’s tournament features a total of 80 professional academies from 10 countries across four continents competing in U-17 and U-15 tournament play at the Toyota Soccer Center at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas from April 9-17.
