Dayton Student-Athletes Will Be Recognized Throughout The School Year
DAYTON – University of Dayton men’s basketball freshman Malachi Smith and women’s track and field freshman Chante Clinkscale have been named the Ohio’s CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week for contests during Feb. 7-13.
Smith, who hails from Bronx, N.Y., handed out 17 assists while playing in 25.5 minutes in two Dayton wins this past week. He had eight assists against one turnover with seven points against Duquesne on Monday. In the George Washington win on Saturday, he had nine assists, three steals and five points. For the season he has 48 steals, which ties the UD freshman record, and also has 127 assists which ranks fourth all-time by a freshman. On Monday, Smith was named A-10 Rookie of the Week for the fourth time.
A Warren, Ohio, native, Clinkscale broke her own record in the 200m at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State, winning the race overall setting a new UD record time of 24.22. The freshman also won the 60m race with an all-time top-five time of 7.47.
