Boston Places Right-Handed Pitcher Ryan Brasier on 60-day Injured List
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today claimed right-handed pitcher Brandon Brennan off waivers from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox placed right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier on the 60-day injured list.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Brennan, 29, began the season at the Mariners’ Alternate Training Site. In 49 career major league appearances—all in relief with Seattle—he has posted a 4.45 ERA (27 ER/54.2 IP) with a .208 opponent batting average, 54 strikeouts, and 29 walks. Selected by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2012 June Draft, Brennan was acquired by the Mariners in the 2018 Rule 5 Draft. The California native was limited to five games in 2020 due to injury.
Brasier, 33, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain on April 1, retroactive to March 29. In 2020, the right-hander led Red Sox pitchers in appearances (25) and holds (10) and recorded a career high in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (10.80). In his final 18 outings, he posted a 1.89 ERA (4 ER/19.0 IP) and held opponents to a .192 batting average.
