Wright State Raiders, 5-1 at home, welcomes Oakland Grizzlies for Thursday Night Horizon League matchup, 7 PM

DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team looks to build ott its 5-1 home record when the Raiders welcome Oakland to the Nutter Center for a Thursday night machup, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. Fans can follow the action several ways – watching on ESPN+, via live stats or by tuning in to the home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the radio television feeds.

Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. The iHeartRadio app, the TuneIn Radio app and the Audacy app are all FREE and each carry 101.5 HANK FM. Just search “101.5 HANK FM” on any of the three apps for Raider Basketball.

LAST TIME OUT 
Andrea Holden turned in a complete stat line that included an 11-point effort in his first collegiate game to spark Wright State in a 74-51 home victory over Green Bay last Thursday. Brandon Noel led all players with 20 points, adding five rebounds and a pair of assists, while Logan Woods was 6-of-9 from the floor on the way to 14 points, adding five rebounds and five assists. Jack Doumbia was the final Raider in double figures with 11 points of his own, while Michael Imariagbe pulled down a season-best 12 rebounds while adding six points.

HOME COOKING
Thursday’s contest is part of a stretch that sees the Raiders playing five of eight January games at home, including back-to-back home games – twice – for the first time this season. Wright State played 10 of its first 15 games away from home this season. The Raiders are currently 5-1 inside the Nutter Center.

HORIZON LEAGUE HOLDEN
Andrea Holden was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week on Jan. 6 after turning in 11 points with seven rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks to his scoring output in his collegiate debut on Jan. 2 against Green Bay.

OAKLAND ORIGINALS
Wright State and Oakland have met 32 times, with the Raiders leading the series 20-12. The teams first met back on Nov. 29, 1977 – a Raider victory – and the teams also met in Jan. 1979 and Dec. 1979 but then didn’t face each other again until Dec. 2000. Wright State also handed Oakland a loss in the Golden Grizzlies’ first-ever Horizon League contest, played Jan. 2, 2014 inside the Nutter Center. Alex HuibregtseSolomon Callaghan and Andrew Welage all finished with 12 points, while Jack Doumbia notched 10 points of his own, in the first meeting back on Dec. 5 – a 66-64 Oakland win.

GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
– Oakland is 5-11 overall and 2-3 in the Horizon League, coming into Thursday. The Golden Grizzlies have lost seven of their last nine games since the first meeting with Wright State on December 5.
– Allen Mukeba leads the scoring for Oakland at 13.5 points per game, while Buru Naivalurua’s 7.7 boards per game is tops on the roster.

DEFENSIVE CHANGES?
Wright State has allowed 75 points or less in 10 of 16 contests to date after holding opponents to 75 points or less eight total times last season, with the first instance not coming until Nov. 22 against Illinois State in MTE action. The Raider defense held Green Bay to 51 points on Jan. 2 and Air Force to 57 points on Nov. 30, the fewest points Wright State has allowed since holding Illinois State to 49 points in November 2023.

SPREADING THE SHOOTING AROUND
The Raiders are averaging 20.1 field goal attempts per game at the rim with a combined 21.2 attempts per game from deep (17.1 three-point FG attempts from above the break per game). Wright State is adding 10.4 attempts per game in the paint and averages 7.0 midrange shot attempts per contest.
