Sophomore Quinn Ewers is the ninth Longhorn since 2004 to earn the honor.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Texas sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced on Sunday. Ewers completed 24-of-38 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns to guide the 11th-ranked Longhorns to a 34-24 victory over No. 3 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Ewers highlighted the Longhorns’ 21-point fourth quarter effort with a pair of touchdown passes that lifted Texas to victory and snapped the Crimson Tide’s 21-game home winning streak.
The Southlake, Texas native connected for three touchdowns passes for the second consecutive game and fourth time in his career, while Saturday’s 300-yard passing effort was his third career performance. He also extended his streak of consecutive passes without an interception to 184, the second-longest stretch in program history (Sam Ehlinger, 308). In 12 career games, Ewers has passed for 2,786 and 21 touchdowns.
The victory was the first non-conference road victory for the Longhorns over an AP Top-3 opponent in program history and the first victory on the road against any top-three team since the No. 1-ranked Longhorns won “The Game of the Century” at conference foe and second-ranked Arkansas, 15-14, in 1969.
Ewers is the ninth Longhorn since 2004, and first since Bijan Robinson in 2021, to earn weekly honors. All told, Texas has claimed Walter Camp Player of the Week accolades 12 times.
The Longhorns return home to Darrel K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to host Wyoming on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on LHN.
