    ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio men’s basketball team (9-9, 1-3 MAC) is back in Athens this weekend when they host Central Michigan. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats matchup will be seen on ESPN3 where Marty Bannister and Dave Cecutti will have the call. 

    The Bobcats’ matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield. Russ Eisenstein returns for his 15th season as the “Voice of the Bobcats” and will be joined by Ohio alum Rob Cornlius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades. WXTQ (Power 105) in Athens returns as the 11-station network’s flagship.  

    STORYLINES
    • Ohio is coming off a 90-75 loss at Toledo on Tuesday. 
    • This is the 84th all-time meeting between Ohio and Central Michigan.
    • Ohio leads the all-time series, 50-33. 
    • The Bobcats and CMU met twice last season, with Ohio winning both matchups. 
    • The Bobcats took the first game, 81-72 at CMU, and then took game two, 76-50 in Athens.  
    • Ohio is 9-7 against CMU since 2009-10, while the Bobcats are 5-0 against CMU under Jeff Boals
    • Ohio has not lost to CMU in the Convo since Feb. 3, 2018 in a 101-98 OT thriller.
    • Ohio has registered an impressive 547-179 (.756) all-time record at the Convocation Center, which opened in 1968.
    • Ohio is 7-1 in the Convo this season. 
    • Last season Ohio finished 15-2 in the Convo.

    • In the NCAA, Ohio ranks 38th in total rebounds per game, 61st in defensive rebounds per game and 66th in offensive rebounds per game.
    • Ohio also ranks 83rd in three point percentage and 76th in scoring offense. 
    • Dwight Wilson III is 27th in the NCAA in field goal percentage and 15th in offensive rebounds per game and 17th in rebounds per game. He also ranks 29th in double doubles.
    • Elmore James put together a career-high 21 point performance in Jan. 17 at Toledo, going 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-4 from the line. 
    • Dwight Wilson III recorded career performance against Kent State on Jan. 13 where he scored 27 points. 
    • Jaylin Hunter had a career-high 23-point performance against Ball State on Jan. 10. 

    SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
    CMU enters the matchup with Ohio with an 7-11 record and a 2-3 mark in MAC play and is coming off an 69-51 loss against Akron on Tuesday. 

    Overall, CMU averages 67.4 points a game, while shooting .415 from the field, .284 from three and .703 from the line. CMU also average 37.9 rebounds a game, 11.1 assists and 6.0 steals a game. CMU also forces 14.8 turnovers a game. 

    Meanwhile, Opponents average 69.3 points and 36.8 rebounds a game. Opponents also shoot .415 from the field, .297 from three and .644 from the line. Opponents also dish out 12.4 assists and grab 8.3 steals a game, while also forcing 16.4 turnovers a game. 

    Individually, Kevin Miller averages 18.5 points and 5.3 assists per game, while shooting .519 from the field and .375 from three. Jesse Zarzuela adds 16.1 points a game and shoots .833 from the field. Brian Taylor adds 13.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. 

    SCOUTING OHIO
    Ohio enters the matchup with CMU with a 9-9 record and a 1-4 mark in MAC play after falling to Toledo, 90-75 on Tuesday night. 

    As a team, Ohio is averaging 76.3 points and 38.8 rebounds a game, while opponents average 72.6 points and 35.8 rebounds a game. The Bobcats are also shooting .452 from the field, .359 from three and .727 from the line. Ohio also adds 13.7 assists, 6.5 steals and force 12.3 turnovers a game. 

    Opponents are shooting .428 from the field, .357 from three and .660 from the line, while dishing out 13.4 assists, 6.8 steals and 12.3 turnovers a game. 

    Individually, Dwight Wilson III leads Ohio with 14.8 points a game, while shooting .602 from the field, while also averaging 10.0 rebounds a game. Miles Brown adds 10.1 points a game, while AJ Brown is averaging 9.9 points as well. Jaylin Hunter averages 10.0 points and 4.3 assists per game. 

    ALL TIME VS. CMU
    This is the 84th all-time meeting between Ohio and Central Michigan.

    LAST TIME AGAINST CMU
    The Bobcats and CMU last meet on Feb. 22, 2022 with Ohio winning, 76-50 in the Convo. 

    Tommy Schmock finished with 23 points, going 8-of-15 from the field and 7-of-14 from three, he also grabbed three rebounds and dished out one assists. Ben Vander Plas finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Jason Carter added 12 points and eight rebounds. Ben Roderick scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Mark Sears finished with eight points, five rebounds and seven assists.

    Overall, Ohio shot 45.8 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three and 60.0 percent from the line, while CMU shot 31.3 percent from the field, 18.2 percent from three and 50 percent from the line. Ohio outrebounded CMU, 43-42, while the Bobcats dished out 23 assists compared to CMU’s eight. 

    For CMU, Ralph Bissainthe led with 12 points, while Kevin Miller and Brian Taylor both had 11 points. 

    LAST TIME OUT
    Ohio is coming off a 90-75 loss at Toledo on Tuesday.  

    Overall, Ohio shot 43.3 percent from the field, 25 percent from three and were 11-of-13 from the line, while Toledo shot 55.6 percent from the field, 52.2 percent from three and were 18-of-26 from the line. Toledo out-rebounded Ohio, 35-34, and dished out 17 assists to the Bobcats’ 13. The Bobcats forced 15 turnovers and recorded 10 steals. 

    Individually, the Bobcats were led by a career-high 21 points from Elmore James. James went 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-4 from the line. Dwight Wilson III added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Jaylin Hunter scored 10 points and dished out four assists. Ben Roderick also scored 10 points and five rebounds. 

    For Toledo RayJ Dennis led the Rockets with 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while JT Shumate added 21 points.

    ANOTHER GAME ANOTHER CAREER HIGH FOR DJ
    Dwight Wilson III added to his career achievement on Jan. 13, scoring a career-high 27 points against Kent State. Wilson III went 9-of-11 from the field and was 9-of-10 from the line. 

    HUNTER SETS NEW CAREER HIGH
    Jaylin Hunter is coming off a career-high 23-point performance against Ball State on Jan. 10. Hunter finished the game, 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from three, while also going 5-of-6 from the line. 

    DJ WITH THE BOARDS
    Dwight Wilson III is coming off a stellar game at Bowling Green on Jan. 7, scoring 17 points and grabbing 17 rebounds – just one off his career high. 

    ANOTHER CAREER MILESTONE FOR MILES
    Miles Brown set another career-high on Jan. 3 at Buffalo, scoring a personal best 24 points. Brown went 7-of-16 from the field, 4-of-7 from three and was 6-of-6 from the line. 

    AJ BROWN MAKES A STATEMENT
    Freshman guard AJ Brown showed the type of talent Ohio could see over the next four years against UC Clermont, where he scored a game-high 18 points, went 7-of-11 from the field and dished out four assists in the victory. 

    As AJ Brown continues to see more minutes, he continues to get more comfortable, with a stellar game on Dec. 11 at Youngstown State where he scored 16 points, while going 6-of-8 from the field. 

    He was also stellar off the bench against Florida, scoring a team-high 14 points in 24 minutes. 

    Brown made his first career start on Dec. 17 against Stetson, scoring 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and drained three 3-pointers. 

    On Dec. 21 at Delaware, Brown was efficient, scoring 14 points, going 5-of-9 from the field, 2-of-2 from three and grabbed a career-high five boards. 

    So far this season, Brown is averaging 9.9 points a game and is shooting .419 from the field. 

    HUNTER FINDING A GROOVE
    Junior guard Jaylin Hunter started to find his groove in the Green and White. 

    On Dec. 11 at Youngstown State, Hunter led the Bobcats with 17 points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals in the victory. 

    Hunter led Ohio against Cleveland State, scoring 17 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out seven assists in the victory. 

    Hunter is coming off a career-high 23-point performance against Ball State on Jan. 10. Hunter finished the game, 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from three, while also going 5-of-6 from the line. 

    As of Jan. 20, Hunter averages 10.0 points and 4.3 assists a game. 

    BROWN SETTING UP FOR CAREER YEAR
    Senior guard Miles Brown is already on pace to set new marks in his fourth season in the Green and White. 

    After a solid game at Belmont, Brown was clutch against Cleveland State, scoring 14 points and going a perfect 6-of-6 from the line in the victory. 

    Brown was also solid against No. 20 Michigan, scoring 11 points and grabbing a season-hight nine rebounds. 

    He was back in action during the Bobcat battle where he averaged 16.0 points and set and matched a career-high four made threes before being named the tournament MVP. 

    Brown set another career-high on Jan. 3 at Buffalo, scoring a personal best 24 points. Brown went 7-of-16 from the field, 4-of-7 from three and was 6-of-6 from the line. 

    Brown averages 10.1 points and 3.0 rebounds a game, while shooting .471 from three, .451 from the field and .829 from the line. 

    WELCOME BACK DJ
    In his return to the court after missing all of last season due to a knee injury, Dwight Wilson III put on a show. 

    Wilson III finished the game with a game-high 20 points, going 8-of-10 from the field and 4of-4 from the line. He also grabbed eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action. 

    He then put on a show at No. 20 Michigan, scoring 21 points and grabbing nine boards. 

    Wilson III was the hero on Dec. 11 at YSU, hitting the buzzer beater to give Ohio the victory. In that game, he scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. 

    Wilson III recorded another 20-point performance on Dec. 17 against Stetson, scoring 20 points, while going 8-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line. 

    Wilson III was clutch in Ohio’s win at Delaware on Dec. 21, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Wilson III added another double double on Dec. 30, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Chicago State.

    BROD’S NEW ROLE
    After starting every game last season, senior Ben Roderick is fitting in with his new role off the bench. 

    This season, Roderick averages 5.4 points, while shooting .383 from the field and .404 from three, while also recording a .850 shooting percentage from the line in just 16.7 minutes a game. 

    QUIET YET MIGHTY 
    Freshman guard Elmore James responded well in the Bobcats’ game against Cleveland State. 

    James scored eight points, while going 3-of-4 from the field and hitting both of his free throws. James also added one steal and drew a foul in his nine minutes of action. 

    James was stellar on Nov. 30 against UC Clermont, scoring 16 points and going 8-of-12 from the field and grabbed three rebounds in the win. 

    James put together a career-high 21 point performance in Jan. 17 at Toledo, going 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-4 from the line. 

    So far this season, James is averaging 5.0 points and is shooting .596 in 9.1 minutes off the bench. 

    UP NEXT
    Up next, Ohio stays in Athens when they host Western Michigan on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.
