Attendance: 

  • Ohio State extended its nation’s-best active streak of season-opening wins to 25 consecutive wins, beginning with the 2000 season. Alabama is second with 23 consecutive wins entering the season.
  • The 107,524 announced attendance marked the 12th largest crowd in Ohio Stadium history
  • This was the fifth matchup between Ohio State and Texas, with the Buckeyes now leading the series 3-2.
  • The last meeting between the two teams came not even a year ago, in the 2024 Goodyear Cotton Bowl where a 28-14 Ohio State victory propelled it to the national championship game.
  • Ohio State is now 7-13-1 all-time vs. SEC schools.
  • SEC schools are 0-5 all-time in Ohio Stadium.
  • Ohio State is 5-1-1 in No. 1 vs. No. 2 games.
  • Coach Ryan Day‘s teams are 25-5 all-time in non-conference games with eight consecutive wins, including the last five wins over the Nos. 9 (Tennessee), 1 (Oregon), 5 (Texas), 7 (Notre Dame) and 1 (Texas) teams.
  • Day’s teams are 25-8 vs. Top 25 teams, 16-7 vs. Top 10 teams, 8-5 vs. Top 5 teams and 2-0 vs. No. 1 teams.

  • Julian Sayin finished his first start going 13-of-20 for 126 yards and one touchdown.

  • Sayin joined Dwayne Haskins (2018), Justin Fields (2019), C.J. Stroud (2021), and Kyle McCord (2023) as the fifth quarterback to make his first collegiate start under coach Ryan Day.
  • Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith led the Buckeyes with six catches for 43 yards.
  • Tate had a team-high 49 yards receiving on two catches, including the 40-yard TD, the sixth touchdown of his career.
  • Running back CJ Donaldson had a game-high 19 carries for 67 yards. His 1-yard touchdown plunge on 4th and 1 in the second quarter was his first touchdown as a Buckeye and it was the first score of the game.
  • Defensively, cornerback Davison Igbinosun recorded a game-high and career-high 10 tackles. He also had one pass breakup.
  • Arvell Reese made a career-high nine tackles and also recorded the first full sack of his career as well as his first pass breakup.
  • Jermaine Matthews recorded an interception to end a Texas drive in the third quarter. The pick was Matthews’ second of his career and the first since 2023.
  • In the win, 18 different Buckeyes registered at least one tackle. Jaylen McClain and Kayden McDonald each finished with a career-high eight stops.
