Columbus Fury News: MATCH RECAP: Fury Get Back In The Win Column Against League-Leading Vibe; second time this season beating Atlanta

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Columbus Fury (6-11) snapped their six-match losing streak with a statement win over league-leading Atlanta Vibe (16-5) on Friday night. Behind dominant performances from Kendall Kipp and Jenaisya Moore the Fury bounced back from a first-set loss to win the next three sets.

Set 1

The Vibe got out to a quick start in the first set and led by as many as eight points in the set. The Fury answered the eight-point deficit with a 5-0 run to trim the Vibe lead to three. Columbus tied the match at 20 on an overpass kill from Kipp. The teams traded points late, but the Vibe held on for the 25-23 win.

Set 2

The Fury took their late momentum from set one and jumped out to a 5-2 lead. A long rally ending in a kill from Moore pushed Columbus to a four-point lead. A block from Rainelle Jones followed by a kill from Kipp pushed their lead to 15-10 at the media timeout. The team led by as many as six points in the set and kept the Vibe at an arm’s length to take set two 25-20.

Set 3

Atlanta came out hot in set three, jumping out to a 9-3 lead and forcing a Fury timeout. The timeout worked in their favor as they responded with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to one. Columbus was the first to 15, benefiting from back-to-back errors on the Vibe. The Fury earned a huge momentum point on a long rally to go up by two, 19-17, on a kill from Kaitlyn Hord. With the set tied at 21, Columbus closed it out with a 4-1 run, capped by a kill from Kipp, to earn the 25-22 win.

Set 4

Once again, the Fury rode their late match momentum to a quick start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Vibe responded and took a three-point lead of their own, 11-8. Down 17-12, the Fury opened up a 6-0 run getting kills from Kipp and Moore and a huge block from Jones during the stretch. Columbus used that momentum and put together another 6-0 run two points later to take the 24-19 lead. The Vibe wouldn’t go quietly, fending off two match points, but the Fury closed out the match 25-21.

Standout Stats

  • Jenaisya Moore was brilliant in her second start of the season. She earned her first double-double on the year with 10 kills and 14 digs while putting up great reception numbers.
  • Kendall Kipp outdid her previous season-high in just her third match with the Fury, going for 25 kills on a .295 hitting percentage.
  • Megan Courtney Lush was a force to be reckoned with on defense notching a team-high 16 kills and adding four blocks.
  • Tori Stringer ran a solid offense with 45 assists and 9 digs on the night.
  • Kaitlyn Hord has now put together back-to-back solid performances following up her 10 kill performance in Vegas with an 11-kill match tonight on a .478 hitting percentage.

The Fury will be back in action next Friday when they host the Orlando Valkyries at 7 p.m. for First Responders Night.
