OMAHA, Neb. (February 7, 2024) – The Vegas Thrill, Vegas’ newest major professional sports team, won their inaugural franchise match against the Omaha Supernovas in a five-set thriller on Wednesday night that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
On the road at the CHI Health Center Arena, Vegas started off the match with the franchise’ first ever point from an overpass block by Layne Van Buskirk. After losing the first set 25-18, Vegas came back with two set wins before Omaha stopped the run in the fourth set. Down by 4 points in the fifth, Vegas came back to tie 8-8 and ultimately dominated the match by winning 15-12.
Rookie Hannah Maddux, third round draft pick from South Alabama, and veteran Molly McCage led both teams in points with 22 each. McCage set the tone with a strong performance of 14 kills and 8 blocks, while Maddux led all hitters with 18 kills. Setter and captain Alisha Glass Childress distributed her sets at critical times, keeping McCage involved and leading both teams in assists (48). Rookie Libero Kylie Murr controlled the back court with 28 digs, leading both teams in this category.
