Wright State Raiders set for Military Appreciation Night on Saturday with 2nd Place in Horizon League coming in, Oakland Golden Grizzlies

DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team welcomes Oakland to the Nutter Center on Saturday night for the annual Military Appreciation game, where the Raiders will don their camo uniforms in the 7 p.m. tipoff. Fans can follow the action several ways – via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in to the new home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Justin Kinner will have all the play-by-play on the television and radio feeds.

Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. The iHeartRadio app, the TuneIn Radio app and the Audacy app are all FREE and each carry 101.5 HANK FM. Just search “101.5 HANK FM” on any of the three apps for Raider Basketball.

**Wright State has launched the Wright State Raiders app, allowing fans to stay up to date on Raider Basketball and all other sports. Fans are encouraged to use the Wright State Raiders app as the primary method for managing their digital tickets, which are required for entry to all WSU basketball events. Tickets for the 2023-24 basketball seasons are now uploaded and accessible on all purchaser accounts. Fans can easily view their tickets, download them to their mobile wallet, or transfer them to another individual account.**

Trey Calvin became just the second Wright State men’s basketball player to reach 2,000 career points on Thursday night as five players finished in double digits scoring in a 92-85 home victory over Detroit Mercy inside the Nutter Center. Alex Huibregtse joined Calvin with 18 points, while Huibregtse added five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Tanner Holden added 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while AJ Braun chipped in 11 points and four boards and Brandon Noel had 11 points and six rebounds.

2KCALVIN
Trey Calvin reached the 2,000-point milestone with a pullup jumper on Feb. 8 against Detroit Mercy, joining Bill Edwards (1990-93, 2,303 career points) as the only Raiders to reach the mark, while Calvin became the 15th player to reach 2,000 points in Horizon League history and is now the first Wright State player in the HL’s 2,000-point club.

Tanner Holden is also on the verge of 2,000 career points. Holden enters Saturday 16 points shy of the overall mark for his career, while he currently is just over 100 points shy of 2,000 points in a Raider uniform.

OAKLAND ORIGINALS
Wright State and Oakland have met 29 times, with the Raiders leading the series 19-10. The teams first met back on Nov. 29, 1977 – a Raider victory – and the teams also met in Jan. 1979 and Dec. 1979 but then didn’t face each other again until Dec. 2000. Wright State also handed Oakland a loss in the Golden Grizzlies’ first-ever Horizon League contest, played Jan. 2, 2014 inside the Nutter Center.

GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
-Oakland is 15-10 overall but has a 6-7 mark on the road, coming off a 99-89 overtime loss at NKU on Thursday night.
-Trey Townsend leads four Oakland players who are averaging double digits scoring with his 16.8 points/game mark, while Townsend’s 7.3 rebounds/game also is tops on the roster.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State currently leads the nation with its 53.8 percent overall season shooting percentage. The Raiders’ Effective FG Percentage (59.2 percent) is No. 2 and the Scoring Offense (86.0) is No. 6.  Individually, Trey Calvin is No. 13 nationally with 172 Field Goals made, while No. 29 nationally with 20.0 points per game scoring average and is No. 27 with his 88.8 percent Free Throw Percentage. Calvin’s 480 total points are No. 17, while Tanner Holden (406 total points) is No. 86. Holden’s 149 Field Goals made is No. 56 nationally.
