AMES, Iowa  – Sophomore guard Emanuel Sharp scored 20 and senior guard Jamal Shead added 14 points as the No. 2 University of Houston Men’s Basketball program dropped its first game of the season against Iowa State in Hilton Coliseum on Tuesday evening.

The Cougars (14-1, 1-1 Big 12) fell behind early as the Cyclones (12-3, 1-1 Big 12) opened the game on a 14-0 run, before Sharp knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to get Houston on the board.

Houston would cut the deficit to five points, but Iowa State ended the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 10-point lead into the locker room.

After trading points to open the second half, Shead spearheaded a Cougar 7-0 run with a four points to draw the game even at 41.

Shead knocked down his 1,000th career point with a floater at the 7:05 mark in the second half.

Houston would gain its only lead of the game as Shead made a jumper with 3:15 remaining.

Tied at 53, freshman forward Milan Momcilovic made a baseline jump shot and a pair of free throws to seal the game for the Cyclones.
