Miami loses home game to Western Michigan, 83-74

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University men’s basketball team fell 83-74 versus Western Michigan University Tuesday night in conference play. Anderson Mirambeaux scored a game-high 20 points to lead the RedHawks (6-7, 0-1 MAC). Seth Hubbard scored 17 points, and B. Artis White added 16 points for the Broncos (4-9, 1-0 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Darweshi Hunter opened the game with back-to-back three-point jump shots to give Miami an early 6-0 advantage. Mirambeaux entered the game and scored two quick layups to even the score at 10 apiece. The RedHawks regained the lead at 16-15 thanks to a fading shot in the paint from Ryan Mabrey and a Reece Potter shot from behind the arc. A Bryce Bultman layup and Mabrey three-point field goal gave Miami a 23-18 lead with 10:58 to play in the first half.
  • A bounce pass through the lane from Mirambeaux to Evan Ipsaro kept the Red and White ahead 29-23. Western Michigan knocked down a pair of threes to knot the game at 29-29 with 5:02 until the intermission. Mabrey put down his second three of the game to keep the score even at 35-35. Mirambeaux dished the ball to Bultman for a layup to come within two at 42-40. The RedHawks trailed 44-41 entering halftime.
  • Western Michigan started the second half on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 51-41. Potter put in a couple of jump shots to close within five points at 51-46 with 16:58 remaining in the game. With 10 minutes remaining, the Red and White trailed 59-51.
  • The Broncos stretched their lead to 63-51 before Ipsaro made a floater and got fouled with 7:38 remaining. Mirambeaux scored six straight points from the free-throw line to make it 67-60 with 4:31 on the game clock. Mirambeaux then followed this up by putting in a pair of three pointers to bring the score to 71-66. Bultman followed this up by scoring a couple of layups to make it 75-70 with two minutes remaining. Western Michigan closed the game with an 83-74 win.

GAME NOTES:

  • Ipsaro led all players with a career-high seven assists.
  • Four different RedHawks scored in double figures.
  • Miami recorded 40 bench points.

The RedHawks continue conference play by traveling to face off with Toledo on Friday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.
