Myrtle Beach Bowl: Georgia Southern 9-6 VS. Ohio 9-3, 11 AM on ESPN; Eagles Preview

Game to be played Dec. 16 at Brooks Stadium

 

STATESBORO – For the sixth time in nine years of eligibility, Georgia Southern is headed to an NCAA postseason bowl game, as announced Sunday afternoon. Georgia Southern will meet Ohio (9-3) of the Mid-American Conference in the Myrtle Beach Bowl at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, inside Conway’s Brooks Stadium. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN.

“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to conclude our season at the Myrtle Beach Bowl and are thankful for the invitation to play in their great bowl,” said head coach Clay Helton. “Having the opportunity to represent Georgia Southern and the Sun Belt Conference as one of a record-setting 12 bowl teams is not something we take lightly. Congratulations to the Ohio football team on a great season, and we’re looking forward to this matchup on December 16th. I can’t wait to see all of Eagle Nation in Conway!”

The Myrtle Beach Bowl will mark the first football meeting between GS and Ohio.

“We are very excited to accept a bid to our first Myrtle Beach Bowl and want to thank executive director Rachel Quigley for selecting us to represent the Sun Belt Conference in their bowl,” said Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Jared Benko. “We are excited to extend our season by playing Ohio in Conway and know that Eagle Nation will show up in full force one more time.”

Georgia Southern has previous bowl victories in the GoDaddy Bowl (2015), Camellia Bowl (2018) and New Orleans Bowl (2020) and appeared in the 2019 Cure Bowl and 2022 Camellia Bowl.

A record 12 Sun Belt Conference teams will be playing in the postseason, including all seven Sun Belt East Division teams.
