COLUMBUS, Ohio – Laurence Wootton, a senior midfielder with the Buckeyes, has been selected to the 2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List, the United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday.
Wootton, also selected to the Big Ten preseason watch list, is a native of Stoke on Trent, England, and a 2023 Ohio State captain.
He has played in 44 matches as a Buckeye entering the season opener vs. CSUN (7 p.m.) Thursday in the annual Wolstein Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State campus.
Over 44 career matches played, Wootton has started 43. He owns 12 goals and six assists for a total of 30 career points.
He has five game-winning goals to his credit, including two a season ago in leading the Buckeyes to the second-round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament after helping the Buckeyes to a second-place finish in the powerful Big Ten Conference.
Brian Maisonneuve, head coach of the Buckeyes, was the Hermann Trophy winner in 1994 while playing for Indiana.
