UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – One of the most decorated players to compete for the Lady Lions, Tanisha Wright has been selected as the Grand Marshal for Penn State’s 2023 Homecoming.

The record holder for most games played in a Lady Lion uniform, Wright suited up 134 times for Penn State between 2002-05. Wearing #33, she found the bottom of the net 771 times from the floor and 439 times from the charity stripe for 1,995 career points, good for seventh on the program all-time list. Alongside her scoring prowess, Wright added 621 rebounds, 484 assists, 267 steals and 61 blocks – all stat categories contributing to three separate selections as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, as well as three first team placements and three Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Following her stellar career in the Blue & White, she was selected by the Seattle Storm with the 12th pick of the 2005 WNBA draft. Wright would go on to be a 14-year veteran of the league, competing 10 seasons in Seattle which included nine consecutive playoff appearances, followed by four seasons between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx. Her WNBA career lasted 457 regular season contests with 36 playoff appearances and a 2010 championship.

Before the 2022 season, Wright was named coach of the Atlanta Dream, becoming the fifth coach in franchise history. Atlanta holds fifth place in the WNBA standings for 2023, amassing 16 victories so far. Going 8-3 in July to propel closer towards a playoff position, she was tabbed as the league’s Coach of the Month. Wright also worked as an assistant with the Las Vegas Aces before earning her head coaching role.

As Grand Marshal, Wright serves a variety of roles during Homecoming Week, including a Q&A session on October 10 at Freeman Auditorium and the annual parade through downtown on October 13 at 6 p.m. The Homecoming football game features the Nittany Lions challenging the UMass Minutemen in a 3:30 p.m. kickoff October 14 at Beaver Stadium.
