COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 2023 Ohio State men’s soccer season begins this week as the No. 3 team in the Big Ten’s preseason poll with three Buckeyes earning a spot on the league’s 2023 Players to Watch list.

The Buckeyes take on CSUN at 7 p.m. Thursday in the annual Wolstein Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium to get things started in 2023.

Laurence Wootton, a senior midfielder, Deylen Vellios, a senior defender, and Anthony Samways, a junior midfielder, made the preseason list selected by the league coaches.

Wootton is a returning All-American and three-time, first-team All-Big Ten selection. Samways made the 2022 Second Team All-Big Ten squad and Vellios is making his second Big Ten players to watch list.

Ohio State finished 2022 with a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament after a second-place finish in the Big Ten regular-season race.
