Cleveland Guardians: 3B José Ramírez & RHP Emmanuel Clase named American League All-Stars

CLEVELAND, OH – 3B JOSÉ RAMÍREZ and RHP EMMANUEL CLASE have been named to the American League All-Star Team, announced this evening by Major League Baseball.  Both players were selected via last weekend’s player voting. It marks the fifth career selection for Ramírez and second for Clase.

Ramίrez, 30, earns his third consecutive bid after another stellar start to the season, batting .297 (91-for-306) with 21 doubles, 4 triples, 13 home runs, 52 RBI and 51 runs scored in 78 games (.367/.520/.887). He currently leads Major League third basemen in average, slugging pct, OPS, hits, total bases (159) and fWAR (3.3). He also leads MLB in game-winning RBI (10) and is tied for the league lead with Josh Naylor with 18 go-ahead RBI.

The Banί, DR native has been a force over his last 21 games (since June 7), ranking second in MLB in average (.398/33-for-83) and OPS (1.223) and tied for third in RBI (22) and hits (33) over the span while also enjoying his first career three-homer game on June 8 vs. Boston. He is currently the hardest player in the AL to strikeout (1 per 10.3PA) and is third in the league in slugging pct. (.520), extra base hits (tied, 38) and fourth in OPS (.886) and hits (91).

The franchise icon leads all of MLB in extra base hits since 2017 (454) and is one of just two players in all of baseball (Mike Trout) with at least four top-4 MVP finishes since 2016. He is the only player in club history with at least 150 career HR and 150 steals and currently ranks fifth all-time in club history in extra base hits (556).

Clase, 24, owns the most saves (66) in Major League Baseball over the last two seasons and currently is tied for the MLB lead in saves (24) and games pitched (40). For the year, he owns a 2.56 ERA and a .224 average against while posting 32 outings without allowing an earned run. He has enjoyed save conversion streaks of eight and nine successful conversions already this year and currently ranks seventh in club history with 90 career saves.

He leads all MLB relievers in ERA since 2021 (1.59/32ER/181.0IP) while also ranking first in appearances over that three-season span (188). His 1.59 relief ERA with Cleveland is the lowest in franchise history by almost a full run (1.59 to 2.55, min. 150 relief games).
