COLUMBUS, Ohio – A new season is here, the postseason, and Ohio State will look to continue its recent string of good play as the Buckeyes open the Big Ten Tournament Wednesday evening against Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. ET from the United Center in downtown Chicago. BTN will have the television coverage with Brandon Gaudin and Robbie Hummel on the call.

  • The Buckeyes are 30-17 all-time in Big Ten Tournament games and 14-7 in their opening game of the tournament.
  • This will be the sixth meeting between Ohio State and Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes are 4-1 in the previous five meetings and have beaten Wisconsin twice in championship games. Deshaun Thomas scored 17 points to lead the Buckeyes to a 50-43 victory in the 2013 title game. In the 2007 title game, Greg Oden scored 12 points, grabbed 10 boards and had four blocks while Mike Conley Jr. had game-highs of 18 points and eight assists in Ohio State’s 66-49 victory.
  • Ohio State has won four tournament titles, the last of which coming in 2013, and has made nine title game appearances.
  • Last year, the No. 6-seed Buckeyes were upended by No. 11-seed Penn State 71-68 in their first game of the tournament in Indianapolis.
  • In the first meeting this season between the Ohio State and Wisconsin, the Buckeyes nearly erased an 18-point deficit before Wisconsin regained control and held on for a 65-60 victory on Feb. 2 in Columbus. That game was one of just two games all season in which Ohio State never held a lead.
  • The All-Big Ten awards were announced this week and four Buckeyes were honored. Brice Sensabaugh garnered third team accolades by the media, was honorable mention by the coaches and was also on the All-Freshmen Team. Justice Sueing and Zed Key were honorable mention by the coaches and Sean McNeil was the team’s Sportsmanship Honoree.
  • The Buckeyes have shot free throws well as of late. As a team, Ohio State has made 40 of its last 42 free throws. That stretch includes a school-record 20-for-20 against Maryland on March 1. Justice Sueing has made his last 19 free throw attempts while Brice Sensabaugh has made his last 15.
  • Sensabaugh leads the team in scoring at 16.5 ppg and is just the sixth Buckeye freshmen to score more than 500 points. He will also likely be the first freshmen to lead the team in scoring since D’Angelo Russell in 2015.
  • Bruce Thornton has averaged 17.3 ppg and has shot over 54 percent in the last four games.
