Wright State wraps up Detroit area road trip with visit to play Titans and high-scoring guard Antoine Davis today at 1 PM

DETROIT – The Wright State men’s basketball team closes its regular season slate on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders take on Detroit Mercy in a 1 p.m. tipoff. Both the Raiders and Titans are coming off Thursday night losses entering the finale. 

Fans can follow the action several ways – via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in on WONE 980 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the radio feeds.

LAST TIME OUT
Brandon Noel tallied his 10th double-double of the season and sixth game with 20 or more points to lead three Raiders in double figures but Wright State fell 75-68 at Oakland. Noel finished with 24 points and a game-best 10 rebounds to collect the double-double, which is his eighth in Horizon League play, the most in the conference. Alex Huibregtse finished with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a trio of three-pointers, for his second straight double-digit scoring output and third in the last four outings, while Andrew Welage chipped in 10 points as both pulled down four rebounds.

TITAN TUSSLE
Detroit Mercy is coming off a 67-64 home loss to NKU on Thursday, snapping what had been a three-game winning streak. Down as many as 15 points in the second half, Wright State rallied back to end the night on a 34-14 run on the way to a 90-85 victory over Detroit Mercy in the first meeting of the season. Trey Calvin tallied a game-high 27 points and Brandon Noel finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Saturday will be the 67th meeting all-time between Wright State and Detroit Mercy. The Raiders lead the all-time series 38-28 overall and have won 15 of the last 18 overall over the last seven seasons. The first meeting came back on Jan. 5, 1994, a 78-71 Wright State road victory inside Calihan Hall.

MADE IN DETROIT
-Detroit Mercy is 13-17 overall (9-10 Horizon) with an 8-4 mark at home. The loss Thursday to NKU snapped a three-game home winning streak for the Titans.
-Antoine Davis currently leads the nation in scoring (27.9 ppg.), total points (836), total three-pointers (144), three-pointers per game (4.80) and total field goals (269). He has 3,570 career points, 97 shy of Pete Maravich’s NCAA record 3,667, and also has a career-best 144 three-pointers, 18 away from Stephen Curry’s single-season mark (162, 2007-08).

DOUBLING DOWN
Brandon Noel’s 10 double-doubles to date are the third-most the Horizon League, while Noel has tallied a HL-best eight double-doubles in League play. Noel has recorded double figures scoring 21 times with six games of 20-plus points. On the glass, he has the 12 double-digit rebound games and has five-plus rebounds in 26 contests.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING
Wright State’s 49.8 overall season shooting percentage to date is 3rd best in the country behind Gonzaga (1, 52.6 percent) and Colgate (2, 51.1). Trey Calvin’s 456 total field goal attempts is No. 9 nationally and his 223 field goals made is 10th. Brandon Noel’s 60.7 percent field goal percentage is tops in the Horizon and is No. 20 nationally in shooting percentage.

NOEL HONORED FOR ACADEMICS
Brandon Noel was named to the 2022-23 Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team on Feb. 23, earning recognition for his success both in competition and in the classroom. A chemistry major, Noel’s work in the classroom has earned him a spot on the Wright State University Dean’s List and he has been named to the Horizon League academic honor roll every semester he has been eligible (Fall 2021-Fall 2022).
