ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio men’s basketball team (10-9, 2-3 MAC) is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when the Bobcats host Western Michigan (6-13, 2-4 MAC). tip-off is set fro 7 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats matchup will be seen on ESPN+ where Marty Bannister and Dave Cecutti will have the call. 

The Bobcats’ matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield. Russ Eisenstein returns for his 15th season as the “Voice of the Bobcats” and will be joined by Ohio alum Rob Cornlius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades. WXTQ (Power 105) in Athens returns as the 11-station network’s flagship.

STORYLINES
• Ohio is coming off a commanding 96-68 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday. 
• This is the 139th all-time meeting between Ohio and Western Michigan.
• Ohio leads the all-time series, 72-66. 
• The Bobcats and WMU met twice last season, with Ohio winning both matchups. 
• The Bobcats took the first game, 59-47 at WMU, and then took game two, 77-64 in Athens.

• Dwight Wilson III had a stellar game at Bowling Green on Jan. 7, scoring 17 points and grabbing 17 rebounds – just one off his career high. He followed that up with a 22 point and 10 rebound performance against Ball State on Jan. 10. 

SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN
WMU enters the matchup with Ohio with an 6-13 record and a 2-4 mark in MAC play and is coming off an 63-55 loss against Akron on Saturday. 

Overall, CMU averages 71.2 points a game, while shooting .444 from the field, .343 from three and .739 from the line. WMU also average 38.5 rebounds a game, 13.3 assists and 4.7 steals a game. WMU also forces 10.0 turnovers a game. 

Meanwhile, Opponents average 72.3 points and 30.2 rebounds a game. Opponents also shoot .458 from the field, .361 from three and .689 from the line. Opponents also dish out 14.6 assists and grab 6.5 steals a game, while also forcing 13.2 turnovers a game. 

Individually, Lamar Norman, Jr. averages 17.9 points and 3.1 assists per game, while shooting .427 from the field and .851 from the line. Tray Maddox, Jr. adds 11.2 points and 3.9 rebounds a game, while shooting .418 from the field. Markeese Hastings adds 8.2 points and 10.0 rebounds a game. 

SCOUTING OHIO
Ohio enters the matchup with WMU with a 10-9 record and a 2-4 mark in MAC play after defeating CMU, 96-68 on Saturday afternoon.

As a team, Ohio is averaging 77.4 points and 38.8 rebounds a game, while opponents average 72.3 points and 35.6 rebounds a game. The Bobcats are also shooting .456 from the field, .367 from three and .726 from the line. Ohio also adds 13.7 assists, 6.8 steals and force 12.4 turnovers a game. 

Opponents are shooting .429 from the field, .354 from three and .662 from the line, while dishing out 13.1 assists, 6.8 steals and 12.1 turnovers a game. 

Individually, Dwight Wilson III leads Ohio with 14.7 points a game, while shooting .603 from the field, while also averaging 9.9 rebounds a game. Miles Brown adds 11.0 points a game, while Jaylin Hunter averages 10.1 points and 4.2 assists per game. AJ Brown adds 10.0 points a game.

Ohio outrebounded the Broncos, 36-28, while Ohio dished out 14 assists to their eight. The Bobcats also forced 16 WMU turnovers and scored 24 points off them. 

Individually, Jason Carter scored a career-high 27 points, going 12-of-17 from the field and 2-of-4 from three. He also grabbed 10 rebounds. Mark Sears scored 25 points, going 10-of-18 from the field, 3-of-5 from three, while grabbing six boards and dishing out six assists. Ben Vander Plas added a double double of his own with 14 points and 11 rebounds. 

For WMU, Lamar Norman, Jr. scored 30 points, going 11-of-18 from the field and 5-of-10 from three. Mileek McMillan added 11 points, while Markeese Hastings scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards. 

LAST TIME OUT
Ohio is coming off a 96-68 win against Central Michigan on Saturday. 

Miles Brown led with his career-high 27 points, going 9-of-12 from the field, while hitting a career-high six threes. He also grabbed five rebounds and was 3-of-4 from the line. Dwight Wilson III added 12 points and eight rebounds, followed by Jaylin Hunter with 12 points. AJ Brown had a bounce back game with 11 points and four rebounds. 

Overall, Ohio shot 52 percent from the field, went 15-of-32 from three and was 15-of-21 from the line, while CMU shot 44 percent from the field, 28 percent from three and was 17-of-25 from the line, Ohio out-rebounded CMU,38-32, while the Bobcats dished out 15 assists to their eight. Ohio also forced 15 CMU turnovers and scored 26 points off them. 

For CMU, Brian Taylor led with 27 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Markus Harding with 16 points.

MILES WITH ANOTHER CAREER NIGHT
Senior guard Miles Brown hit another career night on Jan. 21 against CMU, scoring 27 points and hitting six three pointers in Ohio’s win. 

Brown previously set his career high on Jan. 3 with 24 points at Buffalo. 

EJ IV WITH THE CAREER NIGHT
Elmore James put together a career-high 21 point performance in Jan. 17 at Toledo, going 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-4 from the line. 

ANOTHER GAME ANOTHER CAREER HIGH FOR DJ
Dwight Wilson III added to his career achievement on Jan. 13, scoring a career-high 27 points against Kent State. Wilson III went 9-of-11 from the field and was 9-of-10 from the line. 

HUNTER SETS NEW CAREER HIGH
Jaylin Hunter is coming off a career-high 23-point performance against Ball State on Jan. 10. Hunter finished the game, 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from three, while also going 5-of-6 from the line. 

DJ WITH THE BOARDS
Dwight Wilson III is coming off a stellar game at Bowling Green on Jan. 7, scoring 17 points and grabbing 17 rebounds – just one off his career high. 

AJ BROWN MAKES A STATEMENT
Freshman guard AJ Brown showed the type of talent Ohio could see over the next four years against UC Clermont, where he scored a game-high 18 points, went 7-of-11 from the field and dished out four assists in the victory. 

As AJ Brown continues to see more minutes, he continues to get more comfortable, with a stellar game on Dec. 11 at Youngstown State where he scored 16 points, while going 6-of-8 from the field. 

He was also stellar off the bench against Florida, scoring a team-high 14 points in 24 minutes. 

Brown made his first career start on Dec. 17 against Stetson, scoring 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and drained three 3-pointers. 

On Dec. 21 at Delaware, Brown was efficient, scoring 14 points, going 5-of-9 from the field, 2-of-2 from three and grabbed a career-high five boards. 

So far this season, Brown is averaging 10.0 points a game and is shooting .413 from the field. 

HUNTER FINDING A GROOVE
Junior guard Jaylin Hunter started to find his groove in the Green and White. 

On Dec. 11 at Youngstown State, Hunter led the Bobcats with 17 points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals in the victory. 

Hunter led Ohio against Cleveland State, scoring 17 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out seven assists in the victory. 

Hunter is coming off a career-high 23-point performance against Ball State on Jan. 10. Hunter finished the game, 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from three, while also going 5-of-6 from the line. 

As of Jan. 23, Hunter averages 10.1 points and 4.2 assists a game. 

BROWN SETTING UP FOR CAREER YEAR
Senior guard Miles Brown is already on pace to set new marks in his fourth season in the Green and White. 

After a solid game at Belmont, Brown was clutch against Cleveland State, scoring 14 points and going a perfect 6-of-6 from the line in the victory. 

Brown was also solid against No. 20 Michigan, scoring 11 points and grabbing a season-hight nine rebounds. 

He was back in action during the Bobcat battle where he averaged 16.0 points and set and matched a career-high four made threes before being named the tournament MVP. 

Brown set another career-high on Jan. 3 at Buffalo, scoring a personal best 24 points. Brown went 7-of-16 from the field, 4-of-7 from three and was 6-of-6 from the line. 

Brown reset his career high on Jan. 21, scoring 27 points and hitting six made threes. 

Brown averages 11.0 points and 3.1 rebounds a game, while shooting .494 from three, .476 from the field and .821 from the line. 

WELCOME BACK DJ
In his return to the court after missing all of last season due to a knee injury, Dwight Wilson III put on a show. 

Wilson III finished the game with a game-high 20 points, going 8-of-10 from the field and 4of-4 from the line. He also grabbed eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action. 

He then put on a show at No. 20 Michigan, scoring 21 points and grabbing nine boards. 

Wilson III was the hero on Dec. 11 at YSU, hitting the buzzer beater to give Ohio the victory. In that game, he scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. 

Wilson III recorded another 20-point performance on Dec. 17 against Stetson, scoring 20 points, while going 8-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line. 

Wilson III was clutch in Ohio’s win at Delaware on Dec. 21, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Wilson III added another double double on Dec. 30, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Chicago State.

BROD’S NEW ROLE
After starting every game last season, senior Ben Roderick is fitting in with his new role off the bench. 

This season, Roderick averages 5.3 points, while shooting .381 from the field and .417 from three, while also recording a .850 shooting percentage from the line in just 17.3 minutes a game. 

QUIET YET MIGHTY 
Freshman guard Elmore James responded well in the Bobcats’ game against Cleveland State. 

James scored eight points, while going 3-of-4 from the field and hitting both of his free throws. James also added one steal and drew a foul in his nine minutes of action. 

James was stellar on Nov. 30 against UC Clermont, scoring 16 points and going 8-of-12 from the field and grabbed three rebounds in the win. 

James put together a career-high 21 point performance in Jan. 17 at Toledo, going 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-4 from the line. 

James made his first career start on Jan. 21 against CMU. 

So far this season, James is averaging 5.2 points and is shooting .583 in 9.8 minutes off the bench.
