COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming off a season-high 27 points in the win over Iowa on Saturday, Brice Sensabaugh has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Sensabaugh averaged 22.5 points while shooting 57 percent from the floor and 58 percent from long range in a pair of games. He recorded his third-consecutive double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds at Nebraska last Wednesday. He then was 10-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, to finish with a game and season-high 27 points vs. Iowa.
The Orlando, Fla., native becomes the first Buckeye freshman to lead the team in scoring in 10 consecutive games. For the year, Sensabaugh is averaging 17.5 points per game, which is second-best nationally among freshmen.
Sensabaugh has now earned Freshman of the Week honors four times this season, becoming the first Buckeye to do that since D’Angelo Russell did it seven times in the 2014-15 season. The only other Buckeye to earn Freshman of the Week honors more than Russell was Jared Sullinger. The conference should have named the award after Sullinger who earned the honor a record 12 times in the award’s first year in 2010-11.
The Buckeyes will be on the road for a pair of games this week beginning with a game at Illinois on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
