NHL on TNT & B/R Open Ice to Host First-Ever “Breakaway” Fan Experience Ahead of Puck Drop – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – with Musical Performance from Sam Hunt
NHL on TNT will be the exclusive U.S. home of the 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic®, pitting Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins against David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron andthe Boston Bruins on Monday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. ET from Fenway Park in Boston. Kenny Albert will provide play-by-play for the highly anticipated outdoor matchup, along with commentary from Eddie Olczyk and Keith Jones. TNT will give viewers unprecedented access throughout the Winter Classic, including on-ice interviews from Darren Pang, as well as mic’d-up players and locker room action.
2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic® coverage will begin at 1 p.m. with an hour-long NHL on TNT Face Off Presented by Verizon pregame show live from Fenway Park. Host Liam McHugh will be joined by Wayne Gretzky, Rick Tocchet, Anson Carter and Paul Bissonnette. The studio crew will return for intermission coverage and a 30-minute postgame show.
Breakaway Fan Event
NHL on TNT and B/R Open Ice will kick off the day with a brand-new fan experience Breakaway, open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Brookline Lot, directly across from legendary Fenway Park. Jackie Redmond will provide live reporting from Breakaway throughout the NHL on TNT Faceoff presented by Verizon pregame show.
Along with a variety of hockey-centric fan activities, programming celebrating both hockey clubs, and popular concessions fare from Boston and Pittsburgh, Breakaway will host a special music performance by multi-platinum-selling, GRAMMY®-nominated country artist Sam Hunt. Fan activations will include a 20-foot air hockey table presented by Discover; Truly Bar featuring Truly line of seltzers; and others.
NHL on TNT and B/R Open Ice will also partner with One Warm Coat to host an in-person coat drive at Breakaway, where fans in the Boston area can donate gently-worn coats to those in need. Monetary contributions can also be made online from Dec. 14 – Jan. 3.

Bleacher Report’s B/R Open Ice Programming
Retired NHL player and former ironman Keith Yandle will headline B/R Open Ice’s content at Winter Classic. Yandle will be part of several moments, including hosting B/R Open Ice’s Instagram story on gameday, and co-hosting a watch-along of the second period of the Winter Classic in the B/R App.
The 2022-23 season will culminate with NHL on TNT’s first-ever presentation of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, in addition to half of the Stanley Cup Playoffs – Round One, Round Two and Conference Finals. NHL on TNT’s complete 2022-23 regular season schedule can be found here.
