Bobbleheads are available Saturdays and Sundays in July
The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum presented by Dinsmore is continuing its 2022 bobblehead series in July with Reds Hall of Famer Mario Soto.
The Reds signed Mario Soto as an amateur free agent in 1973 and he made his major-league debut on July 21, 1977. Within a few years, he became one of the best pitchers of his era. With his fastball and tremendous changeup, he struck out 1,063 batters from 1980 to 1985 — more than any other pitcher in baseball. His 274 strikeouts in 1982 set a single-season Reds record and occurred in the first of three consecutive years in which Soto was a National League All-Star. Soto’s sterling pitching also resulted in three consecutive top-10 finishes in Cy Young Award voting, including a second-place finish in 1983. Soto’s career was cut short by injuries that forced him out of baseball after the 1988 season when he was only 31 years old. His career strikeout total of 1,449 ranks second in Reds history. He was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 2001.
The bobblehead, presented by Dinsmore, is free with regular-price paid admission to the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum (or a Great American Ball Park Tour) beginning Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. and will be available Saturdays and Sundays through July, while supplies last. Only 4,000 bobbleheads were produced and there is a limit of one bobblehead per visitor per day.
The bobblehead series runs through September with a different Reds Hall of Famer available each month:
- May: José Rijo (Class of 2005, now available with MVP membership only)
- June: César Géronimo (Class of 2008, now available with MVP membership only)
- July: Mario Soto (Class of 2001)
- August: Pedro Borbón (Class of 2010)
- September: David Concepción (Class of 2000)
The five Latin American players in the 2022 collectible series are showcased in the new museum exhibit: ¡Los Rojos!: A Celebration of the Latino Impact on the Reds and Major League Baseball presented by Dinsmore.
The bobbleheads are included with MVP and World Champion level memberships to the Hall of Fame. For more information on becoming a member, visit RedsMuseum.org.
