June 3rd, 2022

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of infielder Eddy Alvarez and placed infielder Edwin Ríos on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred outfielder Kevin Pillar to the 60-day injured list.

Alvarez, 32, will join the Major League roster after spending the first 43 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. In 43 games with the OKC Dodgers, he batted .304 with eight doubles, four triples, five homers and 22 RBI. In the month of May, he slashed .350/.464/.563 with seven doubles, two triples, two homers and 15 RBI. In parts of two Major League seasons with the Miami Marlins (2020-21), he batted a combined .188 (19-for-101) with five doubles, one triple, one homer and eight RBI. He was originally signed by the Chicago White Sox as a minor league free agent on June 10, 2014.

Ríos, 28, makes his first trip to the injured list and the third of his career. The Puerto Rico native was hitting .244 (21-for-86) with one double, seven homers and 17 RBI in 27 games with the Dodgers. In his three seasons with the Dodgers, he has slugged 20 homers and driven in 43 RBI in 112 games. He was originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Florida International University.
