Columbus Blue Jackets News: WILL TAKE PART IN 2022 NHL GLOBAL SERIES IN TAMPERE, FINLAND

Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche to meet in a pair of games at Nokia Arena on November 4 and 5

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche will face off in a pair of 2022-23 regular-season games at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 as part of the 2022 NHL Global Series, the club, National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association announced today. 

“The Columbus Blue Jackets are excited to be taking part in the 2022 NHL Global Series Challenge,” said club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen, a native of Kuopio, Finland and the league’s first European-born general manager.  “Finnish hockey fans are incredibly passionate, and I am extremely proud to be a part of bringing our team to the place where I learned to love this great game.”

In addition to Kekalainen, the Blue Jackets have two Finnish players on their current roster:  winger Patrik Laine and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo.

The 2022 NHL Global Series will mark the second time the Blue Jackets have played regular-season games in Europe.  Columbus also participated in the 2010 NHL Premiere in Stockholm, Sweden.  The club split a pair of games with the San Jose Sharks, falling 3-2 on Oct. 8, 2010, and winning 3-2 in overtime the following night.

INDIVIDUAL GAME TICKETS ON SALE THROUGH LIVE NATION

Individual game tickets to the 2022 NHL Global Series will go on sale to the public through Live Nation. Ticket sale opportunities are available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.  Tickets and VIP hospitality packages to the Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 NHL Global Series games between the Blue Jackets and Avalanche will go on sale at 10 a.m. EET (Eastern European Time), which is 4 a.m. ET (Eastern Time), on Friday, April 29 at LINK.  The start times for the two games will be announced at a later date.

The 2022 NHL Global Series also will feature the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators opening their seasons with a pair of games at the 02 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic on October 7 and 8. 

The 2022 NHL Global Series will mark the ninth season overall that the NHL has traveled to Europe to play regular-season games. These games reward the legions of loyal and passionate fans in Europe that enjoy live NHL games available via international broadcast and media partners. The NHL’s biggest stars are also featured across numerous social media platforms and on NHL.com in nine languages for the League’s international fans. There have been 28 regular-season NHL games played in Europe. To date, there have been five NHL regular-season games played in the Czech Republic, which have all been played at O2 Arena in Prague. This year’s games in Finland will mark the first NHL regular-season games to ever be played in Tampere.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when they host the Ottawa Senators at Nationwide Arena.  Game time is 7 p.m. ET.  The game will be broadcast live on Bally Sports Ohio and streamed on the Bally Sports app.  Coverage begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. ET.  The game can also be heard on the Columbus Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, and online at bluejackets.com.
