Cleveland Guardians News: Announces a series of roster moves

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions relative to the 2022 Major League roster:

Placed RHP CAL QUANTRILL, INF OWEN MILLER and RHP ANTHONY CASTRO on the Injured List.

Selected the contracts of LHP KIRK MCCARTY, LHP TANNER TULLY and RHP ENYEL DE LOS SANTOS from AAA Columbus.

Recalled INF GABRIEL ARIAS (29th player) from AAA Columbus.

Arias, 22, will serve as the 29th-player for today’s doubleheader vs. Chicago (AL) and will be making his Major League debut at second base of game one. He has spent the season to date at AAA Columbus, hitting .278 (10-for-36) with 4 2B, HR and 6 RBI in 9 games. He entered the 2022 season rated as the third-best prospect in the Guardians system (73rd-best prospect overall) according to MLB Pipeline. Gabriel was an impressive 8-for-14 (.571) this spring for Cleveland.

De Los Santos, 26, did not allow a run over 7.1 scoreless Cactus League innings (4H, 1BB, 13 SO) this spring. He started the year at Triple-A Columbus and fanned 8 of the 16 batters he faced over his four relief outings (4.91 ERA, 2 saves, 3.2IP, 4H, 2R/ER, 8SO). He was signed in December as a Minor League free agent with a non-roster invitation to spring training after splitting 2021 between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

McCarty, 26, was the club’s seventh round selection in the 2017 MLD Draft out of Southern Mississippi. He has made 3 starts to date at AAA Columbus, going 0-0 w/a 0.79 ERA (11.1 IP, 7H, 1R/ER, 5BB, 12SO, .179 average, 1.06 WHIP), the fifth-lowest ERA in the IL at present. Kirk also did not allow an ER in 5.0 innings this spring (2G/1GS, 5.0IP, 5H, 2R/0ER, 6SO) and is making his debut at the MLB level.

Tully, 27, posted a 1.13 ERA in 4 outings this spring (1GS, 8.0IP, 4H, 1ER, 2BB, 9SO) and has made 2 starts to date at AAA Columbus (9.0IP, 11H, 7ER, 1BB, 12SO). He was the club’s 26th round selection in the 2016 MLB Draft out of The Ohio State University.
