Cleveland Guardians News: Blue Jays get Zimmer, Castro comes to Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians earlier in April announced the following transactions relative to the 2022 Major League roster:

Acquired RHP ANTHONY CASTRO from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for OF BRADLEY ZIMMER.

Castro, 26, has split his professional career between the Detroit and Toronto organizations, making his debut in July 2020 with the Tigers before being claimed off waivers by Toronto in December of that year. He split 2021 between AAA Buffalo (1.80 ERA, 10 relief outings) and Toronto, going 1-2 with a save and a 4.74 ERA in 25 relief appearances (24.2IP, 23H, 13ER, 8BB, 32SO, .237 avg, 11.7 K/9). The Miranda, Venezuela native, who has one option remaining, began his professional career as an international amateur free agent in the Tigers system in 2012. He opened the 2022 season on the Triple-A Buffalo roster and will be on the active Major League roster Saturday in Kansas City.
