THE CREW HOSTS TORONTO FC FOR FIRST TIME AT LOWER.COM FIELD

Columbus Crew returns home this weekend to host Toronto FC at Lower.com Field for the first time. The match will be the 39th meeting of the two teams, with the Black & Gold holding the all-time advantage over Toronto, 15-11-12, dating back to the 2007 season.

LAST REGULAR-SEASON MEETING

The two sides last met on May 29, 2021, when the Crew hosted Toronto at Historic Crew Stadium. During that matchup, the Crew proved victorious with a 2-1 result. Early goals from Luis Díaz in the 12th minute and from Gyasi Zardes in the 21st minute helped boost the hosts to an early lead. Despite Ayo Akinola’s 52nd minute goal, Toronto could not find the equalizer.

ZARDES SCORES FIRST GOAL OF 2022 SEASON

Gyasi Zardes scored his first goal of the 2022 MLS regu-lar season. Zardes’ goal was the Crew’s second tally in the Club’s draw against the San Jose Earthquakes this past Saturday. The forward’s strike came in the 68th minute of the contest – just three minutes after coming into the match – when he fired a shot into the back of the net following a pass from Derrick Etienne Jr. Zardes finished the match with one shot (one on target), three duels won, two aerial duels won and two clearances.

ETIENNE JR. REGISTERS ASSIST AGAINST THE SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES

Derrick Etienne Jr. registered an assist in Saturday’s road contest against the San Jose Earthquakes. The mid-fielder provided the helper on the Crew’s second goal, as he crossed a ball to Gyasi Zardes, which the forward then finished off. Etienne Jr. had three shots (two on target), created one goalscoring chance, won four duels and won one tackle during the contest. The midfielder has scored one goal and provided one assist through two regular-season appearances (two starts) in 2022.

MOREIRA REGISTERS ASSIST AGAINST THE SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES

Steven Moreira provided an assist in Saturday’s road match against the San Jose Earthquakes. The defender’s helper came in the 40th minute, as he set up Lucas Zela-rayan’s first strike of the match. In addition to his assist, Moreira finished the contest with two duels won and one clearance. Since joining the Crew last season, the defender has made nine regular-season appearances (eight starts) while registering four assists.
