COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew 2, Columbus Crew’s developmental Second Team, today announced that it has signed Crew Academy product and midfielder Aidan Wolf to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract, pending league and U.S. Soccer Federation approval. Wolf marks the first player signing ahead of Crew 2’s inaugural season. Contract terms were not disclosed.
“We are extremely proud to announce Aidan Wolf as the first signing for Columbus Crew 2,” said Columbus Crew 2 General Manager Corey Wray. “Aidan is a promising young midfielder who has made tremendous progress while in the Crew Academy and we can’t wait to see him continue to challenge himself at this next level. I want to also acknowledge our Academy Director Kelvin Jones and his staff for the tireless work they put in behind the scenes to get Aidan to this point in his career.”
A native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Wolf joined Crew Academy in 2017. During his time with the Crew Academy, the midfielder featured for the Under-14, U-15, U-17 and U-19 sides, twice participating in the Generation adidas Cup (2018, 2019). Wolf’s performance at the 2019 Generation adidas Cup earned him a spot in MLSsoccer.com’s list of top 10 players at the tournament.
At the international level, Wolf earned call-ups to the U.S. Boys National Team camp at the U-14 and U-16 level. The midfielder also was also a member of the 2002-2003 U.S. National Futsal Team that participated in the 2016 Futsal World Cup.
Columbus Crew 2 is set to be one of 21 clubs participating in Major League Soccer’s recently announced MLS NEXT Pro. As part of the pathway to the Crew’s First Team, Crew 2 will join the new league for the inaugural 2022 season and will play its regular-season matches at Historic Crew Stadium.
