ATHENS, Ohio – Senior forward Ben Vander Plas has been named 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men’s Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, the organization announced today (Feb. 17). It is the third-straight year that Vander Plas has been named to the District 5 list.
Vander Plas (Ripon, Wis.), who was selected as one of six honorees in District 5, is working on his MS in Management and currently sports 3.96 GPA.
On the court this season, Vander Plas is averaging 13.8 points a game, while grabbing 6.7 boards a contest. He is shooting .461 from the field, .338 from three and .728 from the line. He also added 3.1 assists a game in 34.7 minutes on the court. In conference play, Vander Plas is averaging 14.9 points a game ad 6.8 rebounds. He is shooting .472 from the field and .323 from three.
Vander Plas is coming off a career night against Miami on Feb. 15, scoring a career-high 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He went 9-of-12 from the field and 9-of-10 from the line, while dishing out six assists.
The NCAA Division I teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 5 comprising all student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within the district.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced March 15.
