INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – Wright State men’s basketball redshirt junior Grant Basile has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced on Monday. He helped lead the Raiders to a pair of home victories last weekend over Detroit Mercy and Oakland while reaching 500 career rebounds.
Basile tallied his seventh double-double of the season on Saturday afternoon against League-leading Oakland as part of back-to-back double-digit scoring contests as he helped lead the Raiders to a pair of home wins. Basile started the weekend with a game-high 29 points against Detroit Mercy as he scored 14 of his 29 in the first half and finished the night shooting 12-of-15 from the floor with a 5-of-6 mark from the free throw line. He added a game-best eight rebounds as he became the 22nd member of Wright State’s 500 rebound club with a first half rebound. He followed that up on Saturday with a strong second half, scoring all but four of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes on the way to the double-double.
Basile finished the weekend shooting 72 percent (18-of-25) from the floor while pulling down 19 rebounds and adding four assists and a trio of blocks. He now has scored in double figures in 21 of 24 contests with 10 games of 20 or more points, which is tied for the second-most in the Horizon behind teammate Tanner Holden.
The recognition is Basile’s third of the season after he was previously named the Horizon League Player of the Week on December 27 after a 23-point effort in the road win at North Carolina State and on November 15 following a career-best 37 points on the road against Marshall.
Wright State has a pair of road contests this week, taking on Green Bay on Wednesday before a nationally televised 7 p.m. tipoff Friday night at Milwaukee on ESPNU. The weekend concludes with a 12 p.m. contest against Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon inside the Nutter Center.
