Dayton Student-Athletes Will Be Recognized Throughout The School Year

DAYTON – University of Dayton men’s basketball freshman DaRon Holmes and women’s tennis junior Erica Wojcikiewicz have been named the Ohio’s CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week for contests during Jan. 24-30.

A product of Goodyear, Arizona, Holmes averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks while shooting .684 (13-19) from the field in two Dayton wins last week. Against Fordham on Tuesday, he had a double-double of 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. On Friday against Rhode Island, he had 12 points (5-6 FG), six rebounds and six blocked shots and the six blocked shots tied the Dayton single-game record for the third time (no other Flyer has done it more than once). The six rejections also broke the UD single-season record for blocked shots – his 56 blocks in 21 games eclipses the 55 in 32 games done by Steve McElvene in 2015-16. Holmes was named A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, his fourth weekly honor of the season.

Wojcikiewicz, a Pittsburgh native, went 4-0 overall this past weekend, winning two singles and two doubles matches. She took down Elizabeth Rozin of NKU in three sets in No. 2 singles on Friday and beat Meghan Bernard in the top singles flight against IUPUI in straight sets Saturday. Wojcikiewicz went 2-0 with doubles partner Elizabeth Hamilton, both in the No.2 doubles flight. She was named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday as well.

Each week we will recognize Dayton student-athletes throughout the end of the school year.
