CHARLOTTE, NC (Sunday, December 12, 2021) – Charlotte FC today announced the Club has acquired defender Jaylin Lindsey from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM).

Up to an additional $225,000 GAM will go to SKC if certain performance-based incentives are met and a 15% sell-on fee is due to SKC for any future transfer.

Charlotte FC will also acquire Lindsey’s Homegrown rights in the trade. The Charlotte native signed a Homegrown deal with SKC in 2017 as a 17-year-old and while playing with Swope Park Rangers in the United Soccer League (USL), he became the first American player born in 2000 or after to make his professional debut.

The now 21-year-old outside back has gone on to make a combined 34 MLS appearances with 27 starts for Sporting KC over four years.

“It’s always important to sign players that are born and raised in the community where your Club exists and it’s exciting to welcome our first Charlotte native to CLTFC,” said Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. “Jaylin is a player who bring MLS experience to our back line and is versatile enough to play both outside back positions. He’s still a young player with a lot of potential and we have a head coach that is excited to work with him to maximize his talents. Being able to attain his Homegrown rights is especially important as it provides us flexibility as we continue to build out the rest of our inaugural season roster.”

An experienced U.S. youth international, Lindsey racked up 31 appearances for the U-17 national team along with appearances for both the U-15 and U-20 teams.

In 2017, defender was named to the CONCACAF U-17 Championship Best XI as the U.S. qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. There, Lindsey started and played 90 minutes in all three group stages games before an injury ruled him out of the knockout rounds as the U.S. eventually fell in the Quarterfinals.

Before joining the Sporting Kansas City academy in 2015, Lindsey played for local youth club Charlotte Soccer Academy.

Transaction: Charlotte FC acquire Jaylin Lindsey from Sporting Kansas City for $10 in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Up to an additional $225,000 GAM will go to SKC if certain performance-based incentives are met and a 15% sell-on fee is due to SKC for any future transfer.
