CINCINNATI — University of Cincinnati men’s basketball redshirt-freshman Viktor Lakhin was named the AAC’s Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league.
Lakhin produced his first-career double-double with career-highs in points (13), rebounds (11), minutes (24), free-throws (5) and attempts (6) in Sunday’s 73-58 win over Bryant. He also pulled in three offensive boards in Wednesday’s 59-58 win at Miami (Ohio). He is shooting 60 percent on the year as well in his vital role off the bench, as 10 Bearcats are averaging between 14 and 26 minutes per contest.
Lakhin (Anapa, Russia) is the first UC Freshman of the Week honoree since three-time winner Jarron Cumberland in 2016-17. He is averaging 7.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg after missing last season due to injury.
