First Weekly Honor for the Vancouver, Wash., Native

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton volleyball freshman Lia Hawken has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday, Sept. 27. This is her first weekly honor and the third-consecutive week a Flyer has been recognized by the league.
Saint Louis senior Maya Taylor was selected as A-10 Player of the Week while Davidson sophomore Bella Brady earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. The awards are for matches played Sept. 20-26.
An outside/right side hitter from Vancouver, Wash., Hawken posted 2.57 kills per set, hit .256, tallied 0.86 blocks per set and averaged 3.07 points per set in two Atlantic 10 wins for Dayton over the weekend. On Friday at George Washington, she tallied a career-high nine kills and five blocks in a 3-1 win over the Colonials. In Saturday’s 3-0 win at George Mason, Hawken equaled her career high with nine kills and got under a career-high eight digs.
Dayton returns to action on Friday with a trip to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne. First serve between the Flyers and Dukes is set for 7 p.m. at Duquesne’s UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse.
