Wisconsin Badgers News: Men’s Hockey non-conference schedule revealed for 2021-22

Badgers set for 10 non-conference contests, one exhibition

MADISON, Wis. – The defending Big Ten-champion Wisconsin men’s hockey team officially announced its 2021-22 non-conference schedule.

Following a year that included only Big Ten play and home games at LaBahn Arena, the Badgers will open their title defense with a two-game Kohl Center series against Michigan Tech on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct.  9. The meetings against the former WCHA-rival will be the first since 2018.

UW stays at home for the second weekend, Oct. 15-16, taking on Army for the first time in over 50 years and since a 1-0 victory on Jan. 2, 1967 in West Point, New York. The Wisconsin football program also plays host to Army that same weekend at Camp Randall Stadium.

The Badgers then travel to 2021 NCAA runner-up St. Cloud State on Oct. 22 and 23, before returning home to play host to Clarkson on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 26-27.

The Badgers welcome the U.S. National Team Development Program for an exhibition contest on Dec. 3 at the Kohl Center.

The non-conference slate wraps up with the Holiday Face-Off at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee on Dec. 28-29. Wisconsin joins Providence, Bowling Green and Yale as tournament participants. UW’s first game in the home of the NBA-champion Milwaukee Bucks will mark UW’s first game in the city since winning the 2006 NCAA championship on April 8 against Boston College at the Bradley Center.

Wisconsin won its first Big Ten regular-season title during the 2020-21 campaign, while head coach Tony Granato grabbed his second Big Ten Coach of the Year honor in the process. Badgers earned various individual honors as Cole Caufield led the nation in scoring and won the Hobey Baker Memorial Trophy as the nation’s top player, while Dylan Holloway was a top-10 finalist for the award. Among other players earning accolades, goaltender Cameron Rowe earned a Big Ten All-Rookie Team nod.
