IRVING, Texas – Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder and UCF signal-caller Dillon Gabriel were among the 30 players named to the 2021 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List.
Ridder and Gabriel were both semifinalists for the 2020 Davey O’Brien Award and are among the 12 returning semifinalists nationally on this year’s watch list.
Ridder, the 2020 American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, threw for 2,296 yarsd and 19 touchdowns and rushed for 592 yards and 12 TDs in leading the Bearcats to a 9-1 season, which included an American Athletic Conference title and appearance in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. He was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championship Game after he finished with 352 yards of total offense and two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing).
Gabriel led The American in passing (357.0 yards per game), pass eficiency (156.3) and total offense (373.9 ypg) in a stellar 2020 season. He threw for a league-leading 3,570 yards with 32 touchdown passes, leading a UCF offense that averaged 42.2 points and 568.1 yards per game.
