The four young women will be selected from four MLB-led softball programs, including RBI Regionals, RBI World Series, Jennie Finch Classic and Breakthrough Series
In honor of World Softball Day (on Sunday June 13th), Major League Baseball and Church & Dwight Co., Inc, the makers of ARM & HAMMER™, today announced the return of the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award presented by ARM & HAMMER, which celebrates four young women each year who demonstrate positive characteristics through their participation in several MLB-led softball programs. Winners of the Award will each receive a $10,000 college scholarship, courtesy of ARM & HAMMER, as well as a trip to the 2021 World Series, where they will be recognized prior to a game. The recipients will be selected from four marquee softball events, including RBI Regionals, RBI World Series, Jennie Finch Classic presented by ARM & HAMMER and Breakthrough Series.
An MLB blue-ribbon panel, including Olympic Gold Medalist, NCAA Women’s College World Series Champion and MLB Youth Softball Ambassador Jennie Finch, will choose the student-athletes who best exemplify powerful characteristics such as Leadership, Motivation, Commitment, Humility, and Integrity.
“We look forward to young softball athletes across the country getting together at our development events and having the opportunity to receive the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award,” said David James, Vice President of Baseball & Softball Development, MLB. “Jennie Finch and Church & Dwight have been great partners in this effort that both builds confidence and assists with college costs.”
“We are honored to return the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award presented by AMR & HAMMER, in partnership with MLB and Jennie Finch, for a third year, and continue to champion and empower these young female athletes.“ said Cindy Manzo, Church & Dwight marketing manager.
The partnership with ARM & HAMMER is a continuation of MLB’s commitment to the growth of softball, which has included (a) the appointment of Finch, Olympic Gold Medalist Natasha Watley, and NCAA Women’s College World Series Champion Lauren Chamberlain as MLB Youth Softball Ambassadors, (b) partnering with USA Softball to provide elite-level amateur development softball events each year, and (c) supporting the U.S. Olympic Softball Team and the “Stand Beside Her” training tour in 2020 and 2021.
