Boston Red Sox recall RHP Brandon Brennan

Club Options Right-Handed Pitcher Phillips Valdez to Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox on Thursday recalled right-handed pitcher Brandon Brennan from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Brennan on the active roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Phillips Valdez to Worcester.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Brennan, 29, began the season at the Seattle Mariners’ Alternate Training Site and was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox on May 3. He has made eight relief appearances with Worcester, allowing two runs on six hits in 8.1 innings (2.16 ERA). Brennan last pitched Saturday against Rochester and gave up one run in 2.0 innings, striking out four batters and walking none. In 49 career major league appearances—all in relief with Seattle—he has posted a 4.45 ERA (27 ER/54.2 IP) with a .208 opponent batting average, 54 strikeouts, and 29 walks.

Valdez, 29, appeared in last night’s game against the Houston Astros, allowing two runs and a season-high four hits in the eighth inning. The right-hander has a 4.24 ERA (11 ER/23.1 IP) in 20 appearances this season, tossing at least 1.1 innings in six of his outings and 2.0 innings in three of them. Valdez has a 3.69 ERA (22 ER/53.2 IP) in 44 relief appearances over two seasons with the Red Sox (2020-21).
