Syracuse will square off with Lafayette on Tuesday, November 9, in the Carrier Dome.
Series Notes
- Syracuse and Lafayette have met eight times previously.
- The Orange have claimed victory in each of the eight matchups against the Leopards. The teams first squared off at The Palestra in the 1957 NCAA Tournament, where the ‘Cuse claimed the program’s second NCAA postseason victory, 75-71.
- The schools last met in the Carrier Dome to kick off Syracuse’s 1995-96 season on November 25. The Orange emerged victorious, 87-63, behind a 20-point performance from John Wallace. That Orange edition won 29 games and advanced to the program’s second NCAA Championship game.
The Leopards compiled a 9-6 record in an abbreviated 2020-21 campaign. The team lost its opening contest in the Patriot League Tournament to Bucknell, 92-84. Coach Fran O’Hanlon holds a 352-412 record in 26 seasons at the helm in Easton. The three-time Patriot League Coach of the Year led the Leopards to a conference title and an NCAA Tournament appearance during the 2014-15 season.
Syracuse was 18-10 last season and secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year in which the competition was held. The 11th-seeded Orange upset San Diego State and West Virginia to advance to the Sweet 16 before losing to Final Four-bound Houston. Jim Boeheim, who ranks second in career wins among Division I mentors, is now preparing for his 46thseason as head coach at his alma mater.
