BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox appointed right-handed pitcher Eduard Bazardo as the club’s 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Per Major League Baseball Rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Bazardo, 25, is making his first appearance on an active major league roster after beginning the season at the Red Sox’ Alternate Training Site. Added to Boston’s 40-man roster on November 20, 2020, the right-hander is ranked by MLB.com as the club’s No. 28 prospect. In four seasons from 2016-19, he posted a 2.14 ERA (60 ER/252.1 IP) with a 0.98 WHIP and a .200 opponent batting average in 86 minor league appearances (17 starts). A native of Venezuela, Bazardo split the 2019 season between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland, going 5-2 with a 2.21 ERA (18 ER/73.1 IP) in 38 outings, all in relief.
