SMU faces Boise State tonight in NIT First Round; Mustangs overcome 31 days of inactivity to get to postseason

INDIANAPOLIS – The SMU men’s basketball team received a bid in the 2021 National Invitation Tournament and will face Boise State on Thursday at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas, the tournament committee announced on Sunday night. SMU earned its 18th postseason trip, and fourth in the past eight seasons. This is its fourth bid to the NIT with previous invites in 1986, 2000 and 2014. The Mustangs reached the championship game of the 2014 NIT.

The Mustangs enter the tournament with an 11-5 record, including a 5-3 record away from Moody Coliseum. SMU was 7-4 in American Athletic Conference play, earning the No. 4 seed in the AAC Championship.

The winner of the SMU and Boise State will take on the winner of Dayton and Memphis in the quarterfinal round of the NIT on March 25.
