Zags collect No. 1 overall national seed; Cougars collect No. 6 seed
SAN MATEO, Calif. – No. 1/1 Gonzaga collected its fourth No. 1 seed since 2013 seizing the No. 1 overall national seed (West Region) in the 2021 NCAA Tournament as announced today on CBS. Meanwhile, BYU returns to March Madness as a No. 6 seed in the East Region.
The Zags posted the first unbeaten regular season in college basketball (26-0, 15-0 WCC) since Kentucky did so in 2014-15 and went wire-to-wire as the nation’s top-ranked team. Gonzaga will take on the winner of No. 16 Norfolk State / Appalachian State contest.
BYU (20-6, 10-3 WCC) makes its fourth NCAA Tournament as a WCC member and its 30th overall. The Cougars finished the regular season with a sparkling No. 19 NET ranking and were just outside the final AP Top-25 national poll. BYU opens its March Madness run against the winner of the No. 11 play-in game between bluebloods Michigan State and UCLA.
