CBJ sign Parlett, Machacek to one-year deals

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Blake Parlett and forward Spencer Machacek each to a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract.  As is club policy, further terms were not disclosed.

Parlett, 24, was acquired from the New York Rangers along with Marian Gaborik and Steven Delisle on April 3, 2013 in exchange for Derek Dorsett, Derick Brassard, John Moore and a sixth-round draft pick in 2014. In 76 combined games with the American Hockey League’s Connecticut Whale and Springfield Falcons last season, Parlett scored eight goals and dished out 24 assists for 32 points. He also recorded 93 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +9.

A native of Bracebridge, Ontario, Parlett has appeared in 155 career AHL games with Springfield and Connecticut/Hartford, registering 14-44-58 and 148 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 205-pound defenseman has also skated in 58 career ECHL games with the Greenville Road Warriors, tallying 8-31-39 and 57 penalty mi nutes. He appeared in the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic as a member of Team ECHL.

Machacek, 24, was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets on March 10, 2013, in exchange for forward Tomas Kubalik. Atlanta’s first pick, 67th overall, at the 2007 NHL Draft, Machacek has recorded 2-7-9 and a +6 plus/minus rating in 25 career games with the Jets/Thrashers franchise. The 6-1, 200-pound right winger has also appeared in 359 career AHL games with Chicago and St. John’s, registering 98-141-239 and a +34 rating. He competed in the 2011 AHL All-Star Game as a member of Team West.
