Eventhough the Ohio State Buckeyes hockey team has gotten off to a solid start in the current CCHA season, the Michigan Wolverines is still the team to beat if they want to be league champions.

With Gordon “Red” Berensen on the bench since 1984, spanning 28 seasons and has a record of 743-346-75 and will always have the Wolverines in CCHA contention.

Michigan is working on a 22nd straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Before a Friday night crowd of 9,828 at Value City Arena,  Michigan showed that they are the team to beat, by scoring twice in the first period on their way to a 4-0 win over the shocked Buckeyes.

Before the game, OSU was in first-place and ranked #2 in the nation.

The win by Michigan (13-8-4, 7-6-4-1 CCHA) have more experienced team than OSU, with 10 players on their roster who have been drafted by NHL teams.

Ohio State plays eight freshmen and are getting their feet wet with on-the-job-training in the rugged Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

Michigan, who got off to a slow start, has been playing well in its last eight games at 6-0-2. Ohio State, lost last weekend to Bowling Green in back-to-back shootouts.
